Ingredients
- 🍴100 gm toor dal
- 🍴3 tablespoon sambhar powder
- 🍴1 tablespoon mustard seeds
- 🍴1 dry red chili
- 🍴1 tablespoon chana dal
- 🍴salt as required
- 🍴200 gm okra
- 🍴10 gm tamarind paste
- 🍴1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
- 🍴8 curry leaves
- 🍴1 tablespoon refined oil
- 🍴turmeric as required
Instructions
- 🍴First, wash toor dal in a bowl and rinse well to clear all the layers of dirt and color, if any! Next, put a pressure cooker on medium flame and add washed dal, salt and turmeric in it along with the required water. Cook the dal for 2 minutes. While the dal is getting cooked, cut the okra or bhindi in a bowl. Next, heat oil in a saucepan for tempering. When the oil is hot enough, add the mustard seeds, chana dal, dry red chilies, fenugreek seeds and curry leaves for tempering.
- 🍴After the tempering is done, add the cut okra and cook for 2 to 5 minutes. You can add a bit of salt and turmeric to it as per taste. Sprinkle a little water in the pan to cook okra. Now, add tamarind water and sambhar powder. Stir to mix well and cook for 4-5 minutes.
- 🍴After the mixture blends well with okra, add the cooked dal and mash well with water. Let the dal cook for 3 to 5 minutes. Switch off the flame and delicious sambhar is ready to be served. (Note: Please note that the sambhar has to be cooked in low to medium flame.)
