Ingredients

  • 🍴3/4 cup finely chopped cabbage
  • 🍴1/4 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 🍴1/2 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 🍴1/4 cup water
  • 🍴1/2 cup soaked, washed & dried urad dal
  • 🍴1 chopped green chili
  • 🍴2 pinches salt

For The Main Dish

  • 🍴1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 🍴2 cup refined oil
  • 🍴1 tablespoon boiled peas

Instructions

  • 🍴Clean, wash and soak the urad dal in enough water for at least 1 hour. Drain the extra water when its done.
  • 🍴In a large bowl, put the soaked dal and add the roughly chopped chilli, asafoetida and 1/4 cup of water and blend in a mixer to a smooth paste.
  • 🍴Add the finely chopped cabbage and onions along with boiled peas, coriander and salt in the paste, and mix well.
  • 🍴Wet your fingers, take some batter and make a hole in the centre using your thumb.
  • 🍴Put a kadhai on medium flame and heat oil in it. When the oil is hot enough, slide the vada gently into the hot oil and deep-fry till the vadas turn golden brown in colour from all the sides.
  • 🍴Repeat with the remaining batter to make 11 more vadas. Drain on an absorbent paper.
